Benefits of Private Pay
Privacy
Insurance companies have various ways of accessing information about you through different stages of counseling: including authorization of payment, tracking of progress, auditing private practices, billing, etc. By not involving your insurance company, your private personal information stays between you and Minding Your Nest, PLLC. Only your counselor and the practice owner have access to your information except the under specific circumstances outlined in initial forms and discussed continually throughout your counseling journey.
Protection
Insurance providers require a mental health diagnosis for authorization and disbursement of benefits for your presenting concerns (e.g. major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, to name a couple). This information is open to review and may result in denial of coverage. Paying privately avoids this risk.
Additionally, not all mental health concerns require a diagnosis. At Minding Your Nest, PLLC, diagnosis is a thoughtful process that may take many sessions before conceptualizing all symptoms, environmental factors, and potential organic nature of concerns. For example, tiredness may be a symptom of major depressive disorder AND it also is a symptom of anemia. An integrative approach consulting with your team of medical professionals allows an us to be intentional with the diagnosis process.
Control
Insurance companies generally authorize a limited number of sessions and may stop payment of services for a variety of reasons. With private pay, you and your counselor work together to create the best schedule of mental health services for you and your presenting concerns. You needs may dictate meeting twice a week to twice a month or fewer to check in and maintain progress. It is important to our team that we have the ability to make that decision with you!
